Is this slot machine clean? TransAct rolls out new safety product for casinos

With Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods casinos expected to open by next Monday —June 1 — many gamblers may be wondering about whether their slot machines are clean and safe to use amid fears of contracting the coronavirus.

With that in mind, TransAct Technologies of Hamden has launched a new product aimed at helping casinos track their cleaning efforts while also boosting customer confidence.

The company on Tuesday announced its new Epicentral Clean2Play Sanitization Tracking System for casinos.

The system provides printed proof that a slot machine has been cleaned, sanitized and is ready for use, according to the company.

Bart C. Shuldman, chairman and CEO of TransAct Technologies, said in a press release the product launch “marks a critical step toward the safe and sustainable reopening of casinos and gaming floors around the world.”

The product builds on Acres 4.0’s Clean Machine product, which detects when a play session ends and dispatches a staff member to clean a gaming machine.

After a machine is sanitized, TransAct’s product causes the machine to print a “Clean2Play” certification ticket, which includes a sanitization message, cleaning staff member’s name, machine ID and a timestamp which shows when the cleaning was completed.

Casino staff can place this ticket on a machine’s bill acceptor. Before the next play can begin, this voucher is removed. Slot machine players can look for games that have this ticket before deciding where to play their next round.

According to Shuldman, the company’s system aims to provide a cost-effective and efficient way to boost customers’ confidence that slot machines have been cleaned after each session.

“We are confident that Epicentral Clean2Play addresses several critical challenges facing the industry at this pivotal point in time, and we look forward to working with regulators and our industry partners to deploy the product as quickly as possible,” Shuldman said.

TransAct develops software-driven technology and printing solutions for various markets, including restaurants, casino and gaming, lottery, mobile, and oil and gas. Its BOHA! Back-of-House Automation Ecosystem includes hardware and software for food-service businesses such as restaurants and convenience stores. BOHA! helps with various tasks, from managing inventory to printing food safety labels and calling up recipes.

According to the company, it has sold more than 3.3 million printers and terminals worldwide.
